Bead Counts

The count is a regional signal as much as a religious one. A supplier who only offers 33 and 99 is telling you which markets they have actually shipped to.

CharacterThree cycles

33-bead

Three cycles complete the tasbih, which is why 33 is the composition most buyers mean when they do not specify one. It is also the most produced strand in this category by a wide margin.

CharacterLevantine variation

45-bead

A regional composition rather than a rounding error. We are asked for 45 more often by Levantine buyers than by everyone else combined, and it is a standard count for us with no minimum above our usual MOQ.

CharacterTwo cycles

66-bead

Two cycles rather than three. The 66-bead composition is most at home in Turkish and Balkan tradition, and it wants a different profile from a Gulf strand.

CharacterThe full composition

99-bead

One bead for each of the Names. It is also the composition that exposes a manufacturer fastest: ninety-nine chances for the eye to find a bead that is a half-shade off or 0.1 mm proud of its neighbours.

CharacterCeremonial length

101-bead

The 99 with imam and separators counted within the composition. A ceremonial length, and one that is usually specified because the piece is going to be presented rather than carried.

CharacterInstitutional

500-bead

Mosque and institutional commissions. At this length the strand stops being a personal object and becomes a fixture, and almost everything about how it is built has to change.
