Honey

The tone the Gulf asks for by name. If a programme has to work in Saudi Arabia or the UAE and only one colour can be committed to, this is it.

Cognac

Deeper and warmer than honey, and the tone that dominates wherever the Gulf preference does not. Türkiye, the Balkans and the Maghreb all reach for this first.

Cherry

The tone that requires the most honesty from a supplier, because deep red amber is very rarely what an untreated parcel produces on its own.

Butterscotch

The opaque grades — butterscotch through to royal white. Highly prized in the Gulf, and the hardest of all tones to match across a production run.

Green

Striking, commercially popular, and almost never what it appears to be. Green amber deserves a straight explanation more than it deserves a catalogue photograph.

Black

Light absorbed rather than returned. Black amber looks solid until it is held to direct light, at which point an ember appears at the edges — which is the whole reason to choose it.

A deliberate progression of tone across the strand rather than an accident of sorting. Done properly it is harder than a matched strand, not easier.
