The tone that requires the most honesty from a supplier, because deep red amber is very rarely what an untreated parcel produces on its own.

Where the red comes from

Most cherry amber on the market has been heat-treated. Controlled heating deepens colour and can produce the sunspangle inclusions that some buyers specifically want. It is a legitimate, centuries-old treatment and it is not a defect — but it is a treatment, and it must be stated.

We disclose it on every quotation. Naturally occurring deep red amber exists, is genuinely rare, and is priced accordingly; if that is what you need, we will source it and say what it costs rather than sell a treated parcel and stay quiet.

What treatment changes practically

Heat-treated material is slightly more brittle at the surface, which affects drilling and polishing parameters rather than the finished object. We adjust feed rates for it; a factory running the same parameters across treated and untreated material will produce more surface chipping on the treated batch and usually blame the material.

It also means colour is more repeatable across a run than untreated amber, which is commercially useful and worth stating plainly rather than presenting as natural consistency.

Questions

What buyers ask about this

The material is genuine amber; the deep red is usually the result of controlled heat treatment. We disclose it every time.

Yes, but it is genuinely rare and priced accordingly. We will quote it honestly rather than substitute treated material.

It makes the surface slightly more brittle during machining, which we allow for in parameters. The finished piece is not fragile.
